March 2013 Bulletin

Our online version of the March 2013 CFFA Bulletin is now available. In this issue you’ll find a status report for the Every Child Matters, a listing of upcoming Conference workshops, and upcoming elected positions. You will also find the usual letters from the President and First VP, along with the usual Provincial and Territorial Association reports.

We also would like to acknowledge Fran Harding’s hard work and dedication at compiling the Bulletins, as this is her last publication as editor. Thank you Fran!

CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR CFFA PRESIDENT!

We are pleased to announce that Sheila Durnford has been awarded the Child Welfare League of Canada’s 2012 Foster Parent Achievement Award. Sheila attended the Awards Reception held in Ottawa, Ontario, February 28, 2013. The Canadian Foster Parent Association nominated Sheila and we were very pleased that she was chosen from all the other nominees.

There were a total of 6 different Achievement Awards presented during a special Awards Reception. These awards recognize and honour individuals from across Canada who have shown exceptional dedication in specific areas of the child welfare system. Nominees are identified by CWLC member organizations and represent an array of professions from all provinces and territories. They are selected by an independent Evaluation Committee.

The 2013 National Foster Family Week is in the 3rd week of October, from the 20th to the 26th. It is the week we recognize foster parents/families across Canada.

On behalf of the Canadian Foster Family Association (CFFA) I am pleased to have the opportunity of sending Foster Families throughout Canada greetings as you celebrate Foster Family Week 2012.

This week is a time for foster families to be recognized for the work they do throughout the year with children and youth who are unable to live with their families. Your commitment to the lives of children and youth provide them with positive experiences, a nurturing home, stability and guidance when they most need it.
